Concordia (Calif.) Remains Atop the Poll
Story by Baker Athletics
BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Only two teams jumped up in this week’s NAIA Men’s Volleyball Top 10 poll, as Clarke (Iowa) moved up from No. 8 to No. 7 and Hope International (Calif.) made the move from No. 6 to No. 5.
The Crusaders won last week’s NAIA Game of the Week with a road win at then-No. 5 St. Ambrose (Iowa) in four sets (25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23) and took down Graceland (Iowa) in three sets to improve to 10-2 on the season.
Hope International had a perfect 3-0 week with three-set wins over Johnson and Wales (Colo.), Holy Names (Calif.) and UC-Merced.
Concordia-Irvine (Calif.) again kept its No. 1 spot but did not play a match last week and next takes the court on Feb. 19 against Johnson and Wales. The CUI Eagles are currently 11-3 on the year.
No. 3 Park (Mo.) had another perfect week of play with a NAIA South Division victory over Missouri Valley in three sets at its home site of Breckon Sports Center. The Pirates are now 9-2 overall and 2-0 in the NAIA South.
Missouri Baptist holds on to the No. 4 spot for the second-straight week. The Spartans had just one match this week, a four set win over Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) and were scheduled to play Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) on Feb. 4, but that match was postponed due to inclement weather.
St. Ambrose dropped a spot to No. 6 after suffering its first loss of the season at home in the NAIA Game of the Week to Clarke. They followed that loss up with a win over Hannibal-LaGrange at home in three sets (25-23, 25-21, 25-17).
Warner (Fla.) moved down to No. 8 in the poll from the seventh spot and will next compete on Feb. 20 at Erskine College in Due West, S.C.
Missouri Valley and Cardinal Stritch (Wisc.) kept a hold of the No. 9 and No. 10 spots for the second-straight week.
The Vikings are currently 8-5 on the year, while the Wolves are 6-5 and a perfect 4-0 in the NAIA Great Lakes Division.
The next NAIA Top 10 poll will be announced on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014.
