Lindenwood-Belleville (lll.) Upsets No. 20 Central Methodist (Mo.), 80-61

BELLEVILLE, Ill. – The Lindenwood–Belleville (Ill.) women's basketball team used a balanced attack on offense and tough defense on their way to a 80-61 victory over the Lady Eagles of No. 20 Central Methodist (Mo.).

The Lady Lynx scored the first six points of the game to take an early six point lead. Shelby Kohrman knocked down a three pointer on a Lady Lynx first possession of the game and Kirstie Owen followed it up with a three pointer of her own on the next possession.

With 13:23 left in the first half the Lady Lynx extended their lead to nine after a jumper by Kohrman. After a basket by the Lady Eagles on their next possession the Lady Lynx extended their lead to 10 after a free throw by Kohrman and two free throws by Diamond Burt.

The Lady Eagles cut the deficit to two with 7:10 left in the first half, but the Lady Lynx answered with an 11-0 run to extend the lead to 13. Alison Durst knocked down a three pointer for the Lady Eagles with fifty – four seconds left in the half, but Burt made a jumper with nine seconds left to give the Lady Lynx a 13 point lead at the break.

In the first half the Lady Lynx and Lady Eagles shot forty percent from the field. Burt led all scorers at the half with 10 points. On the defensive end the Lady Lynx forced 13 turnovers in the first half.

The Lady Eagles scored the first four points of the second half to cut the deficit to nine. On the Lady Lynx next possession Kohrman knocked down a three pointer to extend the lead back to 12.

Up by nine the Lady Lynx went on a 5-0 run to extend the lead back to 14. James hit a three pointer to start the run and Kohrman capped off the run with a jumper.

With 4:16 left in the game the Lady Eagles cut the deficit to 12 after a Kyra Williams jumper. From there the Lady Lynx went on a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 19. Kohrman connected on a three pointer to start the run and Burt hit a three pointer to end it. Williams connected on a pair of free throws for the Lady Eagles to cut the deficit to 16, but it would not be enough. The Lady Lynx went on to win 80-61.

Kohrman led the Lady Lynx with 17 points and three rebounds. Burt picked up her ninth double – double of the season finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Cathcart chipped in 14 points, while James finished with 13. Owen connected on four three pointers on her way to 12 points. The Lady Lynx finished the game shooting forty percent from the field and forty-six percent from behind the arc.

On the defensive end the Lady Lynx forced 21 turnovers and picked up 10 steals. With the win the Lady Lynx improve to 20-9 on the season, while the Lady Eagles fall to 19-8. Next up the Lady Lynx will travel to Oakland City University Wednesday in their final game of the season. Game time is set for 7 pm.
