National Office modifies structure, realigns positions

KANSAS CITY, MO. — The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Office recently modified its organizational structure to carry out its strategic and management goals.

In September 2013, the NAIA Council of Presidents endorsed a growth-oriented business model that prompted the realignment of staff responsibilities to move the strategic initiatives forward. The result is a streamlined, more efficient structure that allows responsibility and autonomy within departments to be more proactive in meeting member needs and new growth initiatives.

After three years leading the successful implementation of the NAIA’s Eligibility Center, John Leavens has been named chief operating officer. Leavens, who previously served as executive vice president, will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the association. He remains executive director of the NAIA Eligibility Center.

Kevin Dee, vice president for administration and finance, has expanded his role in the newly created Campus and Conference Initiatives and now serves as the leader of that team.  In addition to her responsibilities in legislative services, Chesney Allen has become the manager for Campus and Conference Initiatives. The team will support conferences and provide value-added services for membership.

Ruth Feldblum, who served as director of eligibility services since the Eligibility Center’s inception, has moved to the new position of director of business analytics. Feldblum will be working closely with National Office and Eligibility Center staff on developing the data that can be used to both streamline internal operations and aid in the development new initiatives.

The NAIA’s customer relations activities have been merged into a single department, Eligibility Services. Both legislative and Eligibility Center customer service are now managed by a coordinated team under Director of Legislative Services Matt Hanson.

The Eligibility Center’s operations are now managed by Brian Haines, who has been named  Director,  Eligibility Center.  Courtney Felix now serves as Associate Director, Eligibility Center (Domestic) and Leah McCormack, Associate Director Eligibility Center (International).
