FORT WORTH, Texas – Oklahoma Baptist pitchers Kelvin Rivas and Andrew Milner combined to throw a no-hitter over seven innings to defeat Texas Wesleyan 13-0 Saturday afternoon at LaGrave Field.
The No. 2 Bison (32-6, 13-4 SAC) collected nine hits and scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings to take the season series 2-1 against the Rams. OBU remains in second place in the Sooner Athletic Conference following the win.
Rivas picked up the win on an afternoon he struck out four and walked two batters over five innings, leaving with a no-hitter intact after throwing 83 pitches.
Milner pitched a perfect sixth and seventh inning for the Bison, striking out four in the run-rule victory.
Ivan Vela scored the first runs of the game on a single in the first inning that knocked in Joey Szczepanski and Jeff Ricker. Garrett Roberts brought home Matt Page later in the inning to give OBU a 3-0 lead.
Right Fielder Tyler Melton added to the Bison lead with an RBI double in the second, scoring Ridge Hoopii-Haslam. Melton finished 2-for-3 with 1 run scored and a game-high 3 RBI batting ninth in the lineup.
OBU led 5-0 after two innings, and then added five more runs in the third to take a 10 run lead. The Bison scored three more runs in the fourth to reach the final run total.
Szczepanski was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI, and Hoopii-Haslam finished 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI for the game.
The Bison will play a non-conference game against NCAA Division II opponent East Central in Ada, Okla. Wednesday, April 9 at 2 p.m.
