CHICAGO – Planning to retire at the end of the 2014 season, Saint Xavier University (Ill.0 head baseball coach Mike Dooley added another milestone to his impressive list of career accomplishments Saturday collecting his 800th coaching victory after the Saint Xavier University baseball team swept a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) doubleheader from Roosevelt University (Ill.) Saturday at Richard R. Ferrell Memorial Field in Chicago. The Cougars (15-19 overall/10-4 CCAC) racked up 30 hits over the two games winning the first one, 11-9, and the second one, 13-6. Dooley has led the SXU baseball program since 1993 and amassed a stellar career record of 800-491-3.

The first game proved to be a slugfest as both teams combined for 20 runs and 27 hits. SXU led 7-3 after two innings and carried that lead into the fifth inning before the Lakers added a run in the top of the fifth to make it 7-4. Roosevelt got a grand slam in the top of the sixth to propel a five-run frame and take over the lead, 9-7. However, the Cougars answered right back with four runs in the bottom of the sixth to take back the lead for good. Senior first baseman Thomas Keating (Chicago, Ill./Joliet JC/St. Laurence) had the big hit in the rally frame with a two-run double to left field. Senior right fielder Chris Klein (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) had three hits in the first game, while sophomore shortstop Alec Barnhart (Hometown, Ill./Oak Lawn Community) had two runs scored and four RBI. Klein also got the victory (3-2) on the mound throwing the first six innings and allowing 14 hits, nine runs (eight earned) and three walks with eight strikeouts. Freshman Adrian Luna (Chicago, Ill./Washington) recorded the save, his first of the season, pitching the final inning and giving up just one hit.

After a scoreless first inning, SXU jumped out to a huge 7-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of game two. Senior first baseman Brad Myjak (Tinley Park, Ill./Mount Carmel) had the key hit in the big frame with a two-run double to the gap in right centerfield. The Cougars added two more runs in the third inning to push the lead to 9-0 off a RBI triple by Myjak and a sacrifice fly by freshman catcher Ryan Pellack (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln-Way North). The Lakers scored some runs over the late innings, but Saint Xavier answered with just enough scoring late to protect the big lead. Myjak went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Klein went 2-for-5 with a homer, two runs scored and three RBI. Keating also finished the second game with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Freshman right-hander Jesse Lopez (Chicago, Ill./Washington) got the victory (2-3) for SXU in game two. He went seven innings and gave up eight hits, five runs (two earned) and two walks with five strikeouts.

Saint Xavier (15-19 overall/10-4 CCAC) wraps up the three-game Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) series with Roosevelt University (Ill.) on Sunday, April 13, with a 1 p.m. game at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood, Ill. The two teams are also scheduled to play an extra non-conference game following the 1 p.m. contest.
