ORLANDO, Fla. – The NAIA Sports Information Directors of America (NAIA-SIDA) met for its annual convention and business meeting on Sunday and Monday (June 8 – 9). The event kicked off with the annual Clarence “Ike” Pearson Awards Dinner at Orange Tree Golf Club, while the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort housed the meetings as a part of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Convention.
Approximately 70 NAIA communications professionals and corporate sponsors attended the event, while others followed along on Twitter and by watching the online video-stream.
The morning session kicked off with a National Office update and the annual NAIA-SIDA Business Meeting, which included the appointment of four board positions. Aaron Sagraves of Davenport (Mich.) was elected as the new NAIA-SIDA Vice President, while Chris Wells of Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), Rob Huizenga of Saint Xavier (Ill.) and Tyler Price of Baker (Kan.) were selected as at-large representatives.
Following a break for the CoSIDA Hall of Fame luncheon, the group returned for three professional development sessions – the Value of Attending National Championships, Not Your Average Social Media Panel and Best of the Best in Game Notes.
Jared Bodammer of Briar Cliff (Iowa) was honored as the 2014 Clarence “Ike” Pearson Award recipient. This is the 38th year that an individual has been presented NAIA-SIDA’s lifetime achievement award, which is named for the former statistical crew chief for the NAIA Division I Men’s Basketball National Championship. Multiple individuals and departments were honored as 2014 NAIA-SIDA Publications and Media Contest award winners. The Embry-Riddle (Fla.) sports information teams consisting of Alison Smalling, Ryan Mosher, Michael Pierce and Brianne Wigley took home the Gary Spittler Memorial Award for Excellence in Publications for the sixth-straight year.
