NAIA Volleyball Players of the Week No. 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Marlowe Beatty of Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio), Sashiko Heredia of Columbia (Mo.) and teammate Penny Liu have been named the NAIA Volleyball National Players of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. These three were selected based on their performances From Sept. 14 – 20 and were chosen out of a pool of conference and Association of Independent Institution player of the week selections

NAIA Defender of the Week
Marlowe Beatty, Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio)
Sr., DS, Dalton, Ohio

• Helped the Cougars to a 3-0 week that included a 3-1 win against then-No. 16 Indiana Wesleyan. Mount Vernon Nazarene (14-0) is one-of-seven NAIA programs with an unbeaten record.
• Collected 57 digs (5.7 digs per set) and one ace.
• Recorded a .962 reception percentage with only two errors on 52 attempts.
• Boasts 245 digs this season
• Ranks 14th in the NAIA in digs per set (5.6)
• Earns second-straight Defender of the Week award.

NAIA Setter of the Week
Sashiko Heredia, Columbia (Mo.)
Jr., S, Tijuana, Mexico

• Guided the 12th-ranked Cougars to a 5-0 week, highlighted by a 3-1 neutral-site win against then-No. 22 Grand View (Iowa).
• Averaged 12.9 assists, 1.9 digs and 0.8 kills per set for the week.
• Recorded a season-high 55 assists against Grand View on Sept. 18
• Owns 30-or-more assists in 11-of-13 matches this year.
• Ranks third in the NAIA in assists per set (11.6)
• Earns first career Setter of the Week award.

NAIA Attacker of the Week
Penny Liu, Columbia (Mo.)
So., OH, Nanjing, China

• Led the 12th-ranked Cougars to a 5-0 week, highlighted by a 3-1 neutral-site win against then-No. 22 Grand View (Iowa).
• Tallied 72 kills and averaged 4.2 kills per set for the week.
• Hit .444 with only 13 errors in 133 attempts.
• Recorded a double-double – 20 kills and 11 digs – in the Cougars’ week finale against Cornerstone (Mich.).
• Ranks 12th in the NAIA in hitting percentage (.380).
• Earns first career Attacker of the Week award.
