2016 NAIA Men’s Tennis Coaches’ Preseason Top 25 Poll – Jan. 26

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Defending national champion Georgia Gwinnett starts its 2016 season with a No. 1 ranking in the preseason edition of the NAIA Men’s Tennis Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The first regular season poll will be released Feb. 16.

Top 25 Highlights (historical information dating back to 2000):
• Georgia Gwinnett starts off its season with a No. 1 ranking after winning its second-consecutive national title on May 17, 2015 in a 5-0 victory over former-member Embry-Riddle (Fla.). The Grizzlies hauled in 11 out of 12 first-place votes and 312 total points.
• Last season, Georgia Gwinnett held the No. 1 positon throughout the entire season and looks to continue that steak in its 2016 season.
• The Grizzlies begin their title defense on Feb. 5 against NCAA Division II USC-Aiken (S.C.).
• No. 24 Marian (Ind.) makes its way into the Top 25 Poll for the first time in program history. The Knights were 19-6 last season.
• No. 22 Cumberland (Tenn.) sees Top 25 action for the first time since March 17 of the 2015 season.
• The Southern States Athletic Conference leads all leagues with four teams represented each.
• Georgia Gwinnett (2015), Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) (2009, 08, 07) Fresno Pacific (Calif.) (2011, 10), Azusa Pacific (Calif.) (2006, 04) and Oklahoma City (2001, 00) are the only teams to go the entire season ranked No. 1.
• Auburn Montgomery has the most No. 1 rakings in the Top 25 (29), Azusa Pacific and Fresno Pacific are second with 23 each.
