NAIA Mourns the Passing of Avid DI MBB Supporter
Story contributions by John McCarthy, Small College Basketball
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Buck Farmer, an avid basketball fan who attended nearly 70-straight Buffalo Funds-NAIA Division I Men's Basketball National Championship tournaments, passed away Oct. 21 at the age of 95. The native of Kansas City, Mo., watched over 2,000 basketball games and only missed one game during that stretch.
Buck joined his late-wife Betty, who passed away in 2013, at those basketball games watching on the west side of Municipal Auditorium. Betty and Buck created a room in their house dedicated to their archives from the NAIA national championship tournament. In 2011, which marked the 65th-year of attendance, Buck and Betty tossed the ceremonial jump ball to begin the event.
The NAIA is grateful for their tremendous support. In Buck & Betty’s honor, the NAIA will dedicate their seats for upcoming tournaments by keeping them open.
