2016 NAIA Women's Volleyball Player of the Week - No. 10 (Nov. 8)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Three players have been named NAIA National Volleyball Players of the Week. Baylee Gross of Viterbo (Wis.) is this week’s National Defender of the Week, Allie Shannon of Coastal Georgia was selected as the National Attacker of the Week and Cayley Meiners from Coastal Georgia is the National Setter of the Week. These three were selected based on their performances from Oct. 31-Nov. 6 and were chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections. 

National Attacker of the Week
Allie Shannon, Coastal Georgia
Sr., MB, Champaign, Ill.

• In all three wins for Coastal Georgia on the week, Shannon finished with double-digit kills – 16, 10 and 11 – for a total of 37 between the three matches.
• With an attack percentage of .486, Shannon is now second in the Southern States Athletic Conference in overall hitting.
• Shannon sits second on the school’s all-time kill list, and based on her results in her final postseason, she has the chance to take over the leader spot on the list.
• Ranks No. 17 in the NAIA hitting percentage (.355).
• This is Shannon’s first National Player of the Week honor. 

National Defender of the Week
Baylee Gross, Viterbo (Wis.)
Jr., DS, West Bend, Wis. 

• In two sweeps that helped the V-Hawks finish their North Star Athletic Association season 16-0, Gross totaled 43 digs, averaging 7.2 per set.
• In 23 attempts, Gross finished with a perfect reception percentage and also counted six aces without an error in 32 serves.
• Gross has now gone 13-consecutive matches without a reception error.
• Ranks No. 37 in the NAIA in total digs (604).
• This is the first National Player of the Week honor for Gross. 

National Setter of the Week
Cayley Meiners, Coastal Georgia
Sr., S, Mackinaw, Ill.  

• In a win over Faulkner (Ala.), Meiners went over the 5,000-assist mark for her career, as she recorded 45 on the night.
• During a 3-0 week, Meiners total 128 digs. In the second match of the week, Meiners set a three-set high with 45 assists, before breaking that mark again the next night when she clocked 47.
• Meiners holds the second-highest average in the Southern States Athletic Conference with 10.6 assists per set.
• Ranks No. 17 in the league in assists per set (10.6) and No. 33 in total assists (1,073).
• This is Meiners’ first National Player of the Week honor.
