Stillman and Silver Lake – both approved as active members at the 2016 National Convention – were subject to the association’s one-year postseason waiting period for first-year institutions. For the 2016-17 season, the Tigers sponsored the sports of baseball, basketball (men’s and women’s and softball, while Silver Lake boasts basketball (men’s and women’s), cross country (men’s and women’s), men’s golf and women’s volleyball as its varsity sport offerings.
In addition to being subject to the previously mentioned one-year postseason waiting period, Crowley’s Ridge and Providence Christian entered the 2016-17 season as associate members in the NAIA, which requires the NAIA Council of Presidents (COP) to approve a move to active membership status.
Both schools were formally approved by the COP at the 76th annual National Convention. Crowley’s Ridge is in its first-year as an NAIA member, while Providence Christian entered in 2015-16.
Silver Lake is the oldest of the group, as the 2016-17 academic year will serve as the school’s 36th year of intercollegiate athletics. Stillman will enter its 17th season, Virgin Islands will enter its 11th and Crowley’s Ridge will enter its eighth as a four-year school.
