KANSAS CITY, Mo. – S.M. Lee of Dalton State (Ga.) has been named the 2018 NAIA Men’s Golfer of the Year, the national office announced on Tuesday. The selection was determined by the All-America Committee, comprised of NAIA coaches.
Lee helped his team to four, first place wins throughout the regular season and two-second place finishes out of nine total competitions.
Lee recorded nine top three finished in 11 total events this season, with five of those nine being top medalist honors. He became the first NAIA player selected to compete in the Arnold Palmer Cup and was named to the all-tournament team.
The Georgia native also led the team to a first-place finish in the Southern States Athletic Conference Championship and he earned the top spot with a total score of 203 that was 10-under. He was also selected as the Southern States Athletic Conference Player of the Year.
The sophomore closed out the year as the No. 1 ranked individual men’s golfer, according to Golfstat, with a scoring average of 69.85.
Lee also finished with the individual national title at the 2018 Men’s Golf National Championship with a score of 271 at 12-under while leading his team to a second place finish and was named to the NAIA All-Tournament team.
