2018 NAIA Men's Soccer Players of the Week No. 9 (Oct. 30)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Manuel Medina of Antelope Valley (Calif.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Seny Gueye of Science & Arts (Okla.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday.

 

Medina and Gueye were selected based on their performances from Oct. 22-28 and were chosen out of a pool of conference, Association of Independent Institutions and unaffiliated group winners.

 

Men's soccer offensive player of the week

Manuel Medina, Antelope Valley (Calif.)

5-9 SR F; La Puente, Calif.

  • Two hat-tricks; leads the nation in goals scored. Also added two assists in 2-0 week for Antelope Valley.
    • Two hat-tricks
    • Two assists
    • 14 total points

Men's soccer defensive player of the week

Seny Gueye, Science & Arts (Okla.)

6-3 JR D; Cannes, France

  • Scored the only goal in 1-0 upset of defending NAIA Champion and then-No. 11 Wayland Baptist when he headed in a shot off a set piece in the 59th minute. Team had back-to-back shutouts of WBU and Central Christian (Kan.). Only the second team to shutout Wayland Baptist. Limited WBU to just five shot attempts, a season low. Limited CCC to just one shot attempt, also a season low.

    • One goal
    • Led upset of No. 11 Wayland Baptist
