Southeastern Women's Soccer Standout Gains National Recognition

LAKELAND, Fla. – The Southeastern University women's soccer team continues to garner national attention, this time from one of the most frequently read sports publications in the country. Junior forward Uchenna Kanu is featured in this week's edition of Sports Illustrated.

The Abia, Nigeria native will be featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of the national publication, which highlights outstanding amateur athletes.

Kanu helped lead the Fire to their most successful season in program history in 2018, recording an NAIA single-season records 54 goals and 132 points.

Uchenna was named The Sun Conference Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, an NAIA First Team All-American, and the United Soccer Coaches NAIA Player of the Year.

The SEU women's soccer team advanced to the NAIA National Championship Semifinal, the farthest the Fire had ever advanced in program history and also won a single-season program record 20 matches.

The issue featuring Kanu is now available on newsstands nationwide.

Kanu is the second Southeastern athlete to be featured in the "Faces in the Crowd" section of Sports Illustrated in the past six months, joining senior outfielder Manuel Mesa of the 2018 NAIA National Champion SEU baseball team.
