Softball has been a national championship sport since 1981. The NAIA was the first intercollegiate sports governing body to provide championship opportunities for both men and women when the women's program was established 1980.

SEASON: Spring

RULES: Official rules are the official softball rules of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) with NAIA-Softball Coaches Association modifications. These rules shall be applied to all contests (preseason, regular season and postseason).

OFFICIAL BALL: The Worth NAIAFP (.47 core) fast-pitch softball is the official softball for all qualifying and national tournament games.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP FORMAT: The NAIA Softball National Championship is a 40-team national tournament. 10 Opening Rounds will take place across the country as 4-team double elimination tournaments. The winning teams from the opening round will meet in a 10-team double elimination tournament at the final site.
