KANSAS CITY, Mo. - For the second week, Oklahoma Christian landed at No. 1 in the fifth edition of the NAIA Men's Cross Country Coaches' Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Wednesday. The Eagles were awarded 17 of 22 possible first-place votes for 617 points. Oklahoma Christian has been inactive since its eighth-place finish at the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree on Oct. 1, but will return to action at the Chile Pepper Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas on Oct. 15.

The top-four teams remained the same behind the Eagles with No. 2 Shorter (Ga.) (602 points), No. 3 Concordia (Ore.) (576 points) and No. 4 Cal State San Marcos (561 points). Jumping into the top five for the first time this season and in program history, dating back to 1999, was The Master's (Calif.) with 528 points. Four first-place votes were awarded to Shorter and Cal State San Marcos picked up the final nod.

Fourteen of the previously ranked squads shifted in rank with Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference members Friends (Kan.) and Southwestern (Kan.) making the biggest improvements. The Falcons posted a second-place finish in a 12-team field that included multiple NCAA Division I and II programs at the Fort Hays State (Kan.) Open on Oct. 8. They were rewarded with a five-spot move from No. 14 to 9. Southwestern reaped the benefits of 10 teams dropping in rank for a four-spot climb from No. 21 to 17.

College of Idaho and Siena Heights (Mich.) return to the poll, checking in at Nos. 21 and 24, respectively. Both programs appeared in the Preseason Poll, but had yet to earn national recognition during the regular season. The duo replaces Cornerstone (Mich.) and Trinity Christian (Ill.).

Fourteen conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented throughout the Top 25, led by the Cascade Collegiate Conference with four ranked teams: Concordia, No. 7 Southern Oregon, No. 19 Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho. The Golden State Athletic Conference and Sooner Athletic Conference each have three teams represented.

The Top 25 was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups. The next poll will be announced on Oct. 19.

Notes: (All information dates back to 1999) There have been 30 different teams that have spent at least one week on the poll ... Oklahoma Christian's two No. 1-rankings is tied for 11th and the Eagles are the 15th team to own the No. 1 ranking ...Former NAIA member Malone (Ohio) owns the most No. 1-rankings all-time with 38 ... There has only been one program that has been able to maintain the No. 1 ranking for an entire season with Malone accomplishing the feat in 2007 and 08 ... Four teams have started the season ranked No. 1 and gone on to win the national championship: Malone - 2007, 08 and 09; Virginia Intermont - 2005 and 06; Minot State (N.D.) - 2002; Life (Ga.) - 1999 and 2000 ...
