2017 NAIA Women's Soccer Players of the Week No. 7 (Oct. 17)

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Maddi Berthoud of Westmont (Calif.) has been named the NAIA National Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Rebecca Sturgess of William Woods (Mo.) has been named the NAIA National Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Berthoud and Sturgess were selected based on their performances from Oct. 9 – 15, and were chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners.

Offensive Player of the Week
Maddi Berthoud, Westmont (Calif.) So., F, Rowley, Mass.

  • Gathered a season-high four goals in 5-2 victory against No. 9 The Master’s (Calif.) on Oct. 14
    • Weekly Stats:
      • Four goals and eight points in lone match on the week
      • Her four goals came on five shots-on-goal (.800%)
      • Leads team in season points (20) and now stands with 19 career goals

Defensive Player of the Week
Rebecca Sturgess, William Woods (Mo.) Jr., GK, Jefferson City, Mo.

  • Recorded a season-high 13 saves in the 2-1 victory against No. 5 Columbia (Mo.) on Oct. 10.
    • Weekly Stats:
      • Finished with 16 saves, allowing one goal in 180 minutes
      • In addition to win against Columbia, also went for three saves in fifth shutout of the year against Lyon (Ark.) on Oct. 14
