KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Alvaro Romero of Aquinas (Mich.) has been named NAIA National Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week and Kenneth Combs of Oklahoma Baptist has been tabbed as the NAIA National Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Romero and Combs were selected based on their performances from April 15 – 21.
Ramero, a senior from Lima, Peru, won the long jump at the Al Owens Classic hosted by NCAA Division II Grand Valley State (Mich.) on April 20. Ramero recorded the longest jump in the NAIA this outdoor season as he went 7.44 meters (24- ¾) to take first out of 25 athletes competing. His leap ranks him third on the all-time list at Aquinas.
Combs, a freshman from Midwest City, Okla., finished first in the 100-meter and 200-meter run at the Sooner Athletic Conference Challenge on April 20. Combs ran a time of 10.42 in the 100-meters to win the event. His time is the fastest in the NAIA this outdoor track season. He was also victorious in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.31, third fastest in outdoor track this year.
