Sioux City, Iowa – (Box Score - PDF) Jamestown (N.D.) fell victim to the biggest upset in conference tournament action, but quickly erased those memories in Wednesday’s opening game of the State Farm-NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship. The Jimmies used stifling defense to ride to a 60-42 victory over Union (Ky.) at the Tyson Events Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Union shot only 28.3 percent from the field, including just 5-for-20 in the second half. The Bulldogs’ star center Lindsey Waters shot only 1-of-3 from the field. Her four points were more than 17 below her season average of 21.2.

Jamestown responded to a surprising loss Valley City State (N.D.) in the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament by dominating Union on the inside. The Jimmies held a 53-33 rebounding advantage and fed off a defense that forced 18 turnovers. Kayla Roemmich came off the bench for Jamestown and provided a boost with a team-high 12 points. Amber Ramlo struggled from the field but pulled down a game-best 14 rebounds.

The Jimmies have advanced to the second round where they will face the winner between Northwestern (Iowa) and Indiana Southeast on Friday at 8:30 a.m. CST.
