OLATHE, Kan. - MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) forward Jenna Matson is the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball Player of the Week after helping the Pioneers to three wins and averaging 35.7 points and 14.0 rebounds per game. During the three wins, Matson also became MNU's single-season scoring record holder and surpassed 1,500 career points.
Matson opened the week with 37 points and 10 boards on 14-of-18 shooting, which included 3-of-3 from outside the 3-point line, in an 84-57 win over Avila (Mo.), and she continued the double-double trend a game later with 38 points and 16 rebounds in a 116-72 triumph over Graceland (Iowa). She also recorded five of her 14 blocks on the week against Graceland, gaining six more in the final game of the week against nationally ranked William Jewell.
Matson capped the 3-0 run with a third double-double, carding 32 points and 16 rebounds in the Pioneers' 75-72 win over their Heart of America rival Cardinals. Matson finished 38-of-57 from the floor in three games, including 5-of-7 from 3-point land and she was 26-of-37 at the foul line.
In the win over Graceland, Matson was 14-of-16 on free throws with three assists.
