Women’s Swimmer of the Month – No. 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Victoria Gibb of Azusa Pacific (Calif.) has been named the first NAIA National Women's Swimmer of the Month for the 2011 – 2012 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Gibb was selected based on her performances in the month of January and was chosen out of a pool of candidates nominated by NAIA women’s swimming & diving programs.
The Glendora, Calif., native won all five individual events she competed in between Jan. 14 – 28 and was part of four relay teams that also placed first during that time period. In a dual meet with Biola on Jan. 14, the 2011 NAIA All-American claimed first in three events: the 100-yard butterfly (1:00.28), the 500-yard freestyle (5:22.07) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:54.06).
She followed that up with four more top finishes at the Soka (Calif.) Invite on Jan. 21 where the junior paced the field in the 100-yard butterfly (1:01.09), the 100-yard freestyle (55.01), the 200-yard medley relay (1:56.14) and the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:44.20). Then in her final performances of the month at the Pacific Coast Swimming Conference Time Trials on Jan. 28, Gibb clocked a time of 1:00.71 to take the 100-yard freestyle and collaborated on a first-place time of 8:12.38 in the 800-yard freestyle relay.
The next Swimmer of the Month award will be announced on Feb. 22.
