NAIA Volleyball Player of the Week No. 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -Patricia Souza of Park (Mo.) has been named the first NAIA Volleyball National Player of the Week for the 2012 season, the national office announced Tuesday. Souza was selected based on her performance from Aug. 27 - Sept. 2 and was chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections among 23 conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.

Souza, a 5-10 senior outside hitter from Ipatinga, Brazil, led Park to a 5-1 record as they defeated two ranked teams and a receiving votes team. She notched 27 kills and 17 digs in Park's 3-2 victory over No. 15 MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) and posted 10 kills and 11 digs in the Pirates 3-1 victory against No. 20 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). In total, Souza posted 89 kills, 72 digs and a .228 attack percentage in the Pirates six matches.

Souza, who cleared double figure kills in all six matches last week, leads Park with 141 kills on the season, which ranks ninth nationally.
