KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Andi Hoffer of Thomas (Ga.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Brad Lyons of Concordia (Mich.) has been tabbed National Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Hoffer and Lyons were selected based on their performances from Sept. 3 - 9 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Hoffer, a 6-foot, junior goalkeeper from Ingolstadt, Germany, notched two wins against ranked opponents last week. In the 3-2 victory over NCAA Division II and 19th-ranked Christian Brothers (Tenn.) on Sept. 3, Hoffer stopped seven of nine shots-on-goal. He followed that up with a four-save effort in the 4-1 win against No. 9 Mobile (Ala.) on Sept. 8. Mobile has been averaging five goals in each of its first three matches on the season. Overall, Hoffer totaled 11 saves in 180 minutes.
On the season, Hoffer is 3-1-0 in goal with 20 saves.
Lyons, a 6-foot, senior forward from Walled Lake, Mich., established a school record for a single-match. He was the offense for the Cardinals in their 6-1 victory against Purdue Calumet (Ind.) on Sept. 7. His six goals broke the previous school record done twice, with the most recent occurrence coming in 2003. Lyon's effort was one shy of the NAIA single-game high this season.
Lyons ranks fourth in the NAIA in total season goals (8) and seventh in points (16).
