KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kaytlyn Coleman of Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) has been named the NAIA National Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and Gabi Jenkins of Nebraska Wesleyan has been selected as the NAIA National Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Coleman and Jenkins were selected based on their performances from Feb. 3 – 9.
Coleman, a sophomore from Kennewick, Wash., recorded a season-best and NAIA-leading distance of 18.92 meters (62’-2”) en route to an individual title in the weight throw at the Idaho Vandal Indoor in Moscow, Idaho, on Feb. 7. She also finished fifth among a field of 15 in the shot put with a mark of 13.23 (43’-5”). One day later at the Vandal Open, Coleman claimed top prize in both the weight throw (18.28 meters – 59’-11 ¾”) and shot put (12.91 meters – 42’-4 ¼”). Both victories came against fields of at least 24 participants.
Jenkins, a sophomore from Papillion, Neb., won the 3,000 meters at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., on Feb. 8. She recorded a season-best and school record time of 9:58.32 to best a 20-person field comprised of NCAA Division I and Division II individuals.
