Upsets Continue As Ozarks Knocks Off Northwood

 - A 17-3 run by the College of the Ozarks (Mo.) propelled the Bobcats to a 57-49 win over the no. 3 seed Northwood (Fla.) in the in the first round of the 22nd annual NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship. The 2013 event is being held at the Keeter Gymnasium on the campus of College of the Ozarks.

The hosts were down by ten at halftime and still trailed 46-40 late in the game before staging a comeback that culminated with the Bobcats holding Northwood well below their season per game scoring average of 86.8.  Northwood led 33-24 at halftime before getting outscored 33-16 in the second half.

The College of the Ozarks was led in scoring by Nathan Simniok with 20 points and Mike Wiebe with 14.  Northwood was topped by Ra'Shad James and Patrick Horstmann had 12 points each.

This is the first, first-round win for the College of the Ozarks at the tournament since 2011 when they advanced to the semifinal round.  This was a rematch of a first round contest last year won by Northwood 67-50.

Northwood ends its season with a 30-4 mark while the College of the Ozarks advances with a 22-12 record.

The College of the Ozarks will face Southern Oregon on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The 32-team, single elimination tournament concludes Tuesday, March 12, with the championship game to tip-off at 8 pm.
