KANSAS CITY, Mo. – John Gilbertson of The Master’s (Calif.) has been named NAIA National Men’s Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week and Zack Lindsley of Doane (Neb.) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Men’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Gilbertson and Lindsley were selected based on their performances from March 25 – 31.
Gilbertson, a senior from Saugs, Calif., established a new world’s fastest mark in the 10K at the NCAA Division I Stanford (Calif.) Invitational on March 29. He finished the 10K in 28 minutes and 30.35 seconds, winning the event. His time surpassed Elroy Gelant of South Africa who previously held the world’s fastest 10K mark at 28:50.24.
Lindsley, a senior from Columbus, Neb., broke the school record in the discus in his first meet of the season. In the Hastings (Neb.) Bronco Relays on March 29, Lindsley finished first in discus with a throw of 58.89 meters (193-2). Along with winning the discus, Lindsley won the shot put with a throw of 17.62 meters (57-9 ¾). Lindsley also competed in the hammer throw, where he finished second, with a heave of 52.58 meters (172-6).
