DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Eighteen different institutions competed for national honors at the 2012 NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance Invitational in Daytona Beach, Fla., April 10 - 13. The competition showcased five different categories - Large Coed Cheer, Small Coed Cheer, All-Girl Cheer, Large Dance and Small Dance - and was a featured division of the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) or National Dance Alliance (NDA).

Four different programs took home first-place honors. Oklahoma City, who competed in three divisions, won the All-Girl and Large Coed groups, while Shorter (Ga.), the only other squad to compete in multiple divisions, claimed top prize in Small Coed. Baker (Kan.) took top honors in Small Dance and St. Ambrose (Iowa) won Large Dance.

Competitive Cheer and Dance is an emerging sport at the NAIA level and has had two successful invitational competitions in partnership with the NCA and NDA. All teams competing at the invitational level qualified by winning or gaining 75 percent of the winning teams score at its qualifying competition in early February.
