Biola Reaches Uncharted Territory

FRANKFORT, Ky. – (Box Score; Coach Interview) All five starters scored in double-figures as Biola (Calif.) knocked off Langston (Okla.), 73-58, in second round action at the 2012 NAIA Division I Women’s Basketball National Championship presented by Kentuckytourism.com.

With the win, the Eagles advance to the quarterfinals for the first time in program history and improve to 23-10 on the year. Biola will face off against the winner of Union (Tenn.)/Xavier (La.) at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday.

Charrise Reece recorded 16 points and five assists, while Chelsea Hill and Adijat Adams added 13 points. Emily Drews chipped in 12 points and Lauren Gustafson rounded out the Biola double-digit scorers with 10 points.

The Eagles outscored Langston 40-33 in the first half, shooting 55.2 percent (16-of-29) from the field, including four 3-pointers from Reece. Langston shot 40.0 percent in the period, but twice went more than three minutes without a field goal.

The contest would hover around a 10-point margin during the opening eight minutes of the second half, before Biola went on a 5-0 mini-run to extend its lead out to 56-41. The two sides traded baskets the remainder of the game.

Biola ended the contest shooting 45.5 percent (25-of-55) from the floor and 14-for-19 at the charity stripe, while Langston shot 31.3 percent (20-of-64).

Vicoria Felix was the lone Lioness in double figures with 12 points off the bench.

With the loss, Langston ends the season with a 30-4 record.
