Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) Rolls into Title Match

MOBILE, Ala. – (Box Score) (Bracket) Auburn Montgomery will be looking for its ninth title in ten years tomorrow after defeating Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), 5-1, in the semifinals to advance to the title match. Auburn Montgomery has won the last two national championships. The Warhawks will face William Carey (Miss.) in the championship match at 1 p.m.

“It’s a great feeling to go to the title match,” said Auburn Montgomery Head Coach Rolando Vargas. “Lindsey Wilson is a great team and we played a really hard semifinals match. We are looking forward to the opportunity to win our third championship in a row tomorrow, but we play a very good team in William Carey.”

Auburn Montgomery pulled ahead early in doubles action as Jade Curtis and Tiffany William defeated Anna Gaprindashuili and Sarah Bernos, 8-2, to take an early 1-0 lead. Auburn Montgomery added to its lead by winning No. 3 doubles, 8-4. Lindsey Wilson’s team of Alejandra Galvis and Laura Vergara pulled out the win in No. 2 doubles, claiming the only point for the Blue Raiders.

The Warhawks extended its lead in singles action as Curtis put away Slavica Milanovic, 6-1, 6-1, to put Auburn Montgomery ahead 3-1. Auburn Montgomery continued to accrue the points it needed to move on as Maria Vargas picked up a win by scores of 6-0, 6-1 to put the Warhawks one point away from winning the match. Morgane Zowczak clinched the match to send Auburn Montgomery to the title by winning in third singles, 6-4, 6-1.

The Warhawks will be looking for its third-straight national championship title and its 13th title all-time.
