Fast Start Carries Concordia to Quarters

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – (Box Score) Concordia (Neb.) boosted its win streak to 20 in a game controlled throughout by the Bulldogs. Katie Rich continued her spectacular work in the tournament, allowing Concordia to win going away, 69-48, over Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) at the State Farm-NAIA Division II Women’s Basketball National Championship.

Concordia raced out to a 12-2 lead just over five minutes into the game as five different Bulldogs scored during the run, highlighted by five points from Kristen Conahan. The Wolves would never get cut the deficit to any less than seven the rest of the way.

Rich and Lori Laboda led Concordia with 13 points apiece. Amber Kistler contributed 12 points and Conahan added 11.

The Bulldogs shot only 35.0 percent from the field but locked in defensively and held Cardinal Stritch to 28.6 percent shooting and forced 31 Wolves turnovers.

Janelle Bagneski posted a team-high 14 points for Cardinal Stritch, followed by 12 points from both Julie Raeder and Michelle Piepenburg. The Wolves concluded their season with a record of 27-7.

Concordia (33-2) will draw the winner of the Grand View (Iowa)-Corban (Ore.) contest in Saturday’s 8 p.m. night-capper in the quarterfinals.
