Wichita, Kan. - Scott Nuss from Southwestern College has been named Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Sports Information Director of the Year. Nuss will be formally recognized at the 2013 KCAC Football Media Day, held on Wednesday, August 7 in Wichita, Kansas.
The Sports Information Director of the Year award is based on a vote of Sports Information Directors working at each Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference member institution.
Nuss began his work at Southwestern College in 2012, becoming the first full-time Sports Information Director in the college’s history. His responsibilities cover marketing, publications, statistics, and promotion of the athletic department.
"Scott is professional in all he does and has been a tremendous asset to Southwestern College and our Athletic Department in a very short time,” Dave Denly, Southwestern’s Athletic Director and Head Women’s Basketball Coach said. “The tireless work ethic and dedication to coverage of all our sports is a major contributor to the overall success we have enjoyed the past year at Southwestern."
In his short time with institution, Athletics at Southwestern has seen growth in the areas of social media, web traffic, and coverage in local media outlets. “The student-athletes, parents, and supporters of Builder Nation have been well informed and treated to countless ways to say up with the outcomes of our teams” Denly said.
Nuss oversees sports information coverage for 16 varsity sports and has a role in game day operations. He is an active member of CoSIDA and NAIA-SIDA. He is currently serving as an NAIA Baseball Player of the Week and Capital One Academic All-District/All-American voter, and this past year he coordinated the NAIA-SIDA Game Notes publication contest.
In addition to his work with the College, Nuss volunteers his services at conference events. He served at the KCAC Men’s & Women’s Basketball championships, Softball championship tournament, and baseball championship tournament. Nuss also works as a high school and youth baseball umpire.
From 2009-2012, Nuss served as the SID for Newman University (Kan.) of the NCAA Division II Heartland Conference. In his time at Newman, Nuss won Heartland SID of the Year twice (2010-2011 and 2011-2012).
Nuss graduated from Southwestern in 2007 with a B.S. in Communication. In 2009 he finished his M.Ed in Sports Administration from Wichita State University, where he served as a Media Relations Graduate Student. He resides in Winfield, with his wife Andrea.
