Top 20 Poll - No. 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Great Falls (Mont.) moved to No. 1 in the third edition of the 2011 - 12 NAIA Wrestling Coaches' Top 20 poll, the national office announced Wednesday. The Argos (6-2) became the third different team to top the poll this season by tallying 106 points thanks to a dozen ranked individuals. Anthony Varnell leads Great Falls' charge as the top-ranked grappler at 141 pounds. The senior owns a 13-2 record, with four victories resulting in bonus points.

Grand View (Iowa) continued its climb up the poll by moving from fourth to second with 96 points. A dozen Vikings appear throughout the poll. Third-ranked Southern Oregon (91 points) landed 10 wrestlers among the top 12 of their respective weight class, including the No. 1 125-pounder in Mitchell Lofstedt.

Guided by Kevin Hardy, who tops the 165-pound weight class, and six additional ranked individuals, Oklahoma City took over at No. 4 with 84.5 points. The top five is rounded out by Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) with 65 points and eight listed grapplers. The Blue Raiders boast Charles Pingleton, who took over at No. 1 at 157 pounds.

Pingleton was joined by Concordia's (Neb.) Adam Joseph as new No. 1s, taking over at 133 pounds. Six of the 10 weight classes have maintained the same wrestler at the top in all four polls issued. Mainstays include Lofstedt (125), Varnell (141), Eric Burgey of William Penn (Iowa) (149), Morningside's (Iowa) Joseph Sievert (174), Montana State-Northern's Evan Hinebauch (184) and Leviticus Roberson of Midland (Neb.) (HWT).

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the Qualifying Groups. The next poll will be announced Jan. 11.
