OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – (Complete Results) Records continued to fall on Friday night at the NAIA Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving National Championships. A total of eight new meet records were set on a day that saw the Fresno Pacific (Calif.) women and the Oklahoma Baptist men remain on top in the team standings. The Sunbird women have a team total of 561 points heading into the final day of competition, well ahead of the Bison in second place with 428 points. The men’s side is much closer, with the Bison in the lead with 517 points followed by the Sunbirds with 498.

Once again the first and last finals of the evening featured record-breaking performances at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center. In the first event of the finals portion of the meet this afternoon, a pair of records that had stood since 1995 fell. The Sunbirds’ women’s 200 yard freestyle relay team and the Bison men’s 200-yard freestyle relay team each crushed the previous records by more than two full seconds.

Christine Tixier of Biola (Calif.) set a new meet record in the women’s 100-yard butterfly event. The men’s 100-yard butterfly was dominated by the Bison who took four of the top five spots. Nick Shuttinger set a new meet record while fellow Bison Daniel Ramirez, Ivan Maciuniak and Garland Sullivan took second, third and fifth, respectively.

SCAD Savannah (Ga.)’s Catherine Duquet broke a record set by her teammate last year in the women’s 100-yard breaststroke. Cheyenne Coffman won the women’s 100-yard backstroke for the fourth time in her career. The Sunbirds swimmer also set a meet record in the event.

Perhaps the most impressive record broken tonight was the women’s 400 yard medley relay. The Sunbirds broke the previous record by more than four seconds. The Bees came in second. The men’s 400 yard medley relay was also broken by the Sunbirds.

Christine Runkle from Concordia (Calif.) won her second diving championship of the meet, taking the top score of 287.05 in women’s three-meter diving. Runkle also won the event in 2010. Oklahoma Baptist’s Victoria Svetgoff came in second with a score of 248.90. This event wraps up the diving portion of the 2012 meet.

Preliminaries for the last day of the championships begin at 10 a.m. CST Saturday with finals to follow at 6 p.m. CST.
