KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kayley Valentien of Asbury (Ky.) has been named the first NAIA National Women's Swimmer & Diver of the Month for the 2012 - 2013 season, the national office announced Wednesday. Valentien was selected based on her performances in the months of October and November and was chosen out of a pool of candidates nominated by NAIA women's swimming & diving programs.
The Waco, Texas, native won five individual events she competed in between Oct. 13 - Nov. 30. In a double dual meet with Campbellsville (Ky.) and St. Catharine (Ky.) on Nov. 2, she claimed first in two events: the 400-meter individual medley (4:51.24) and the 500-meter freestyle (5:38.65). She followed that with two more individual event wins in the 200-meter breaststroke with a time of 2:35.50 and 200-meter individual medley with a lifetime best of 2:19.69.
The next Swimmer & Diver of the Month award will be announced on Jan. 30.
