KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced that the 2013 and 2014 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships will be hosted by Doane College (Neb.) in partnership with the Lincoln (Neb.) Convention and Visitors Bureau. The four-day, 72-hole tournament will be played at Wilderness Ridge Golf Club in Lincoln, Neb., on May 21 - 24, 2013 and the proceeding year taking place from May 20 - 23, 2014.

"We are thrilled to have Doane as the host for the 2013 and 2014 NAIA Women's Golf National Championships," said Jim Carr, NAIA President and CEO. "I'm confident that they (Doane) and the Lincoln CVB will carry on the strong tradition of this event and make it a memorable experience for all student-athletes, coaches and fans involved."

The state of Nebraska becomes the eighth different state to host the event in its 18-year history. Prior to Lincoln, the national championships spent the last two years at the Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.

"Doane College is excited to partner with the NAIA, the Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau, Wilderness Ridge Golf Club and the Holiday Inn Downtown to bring this championship event to Lincoln," said Greg Heier, Doane Athletic Director. "The NAIA Women's Golf National Championships is an outstanding opportunity to showcase the tremendous golf played in the NAIA, as well as the commitment of the NAIA and Doane College to the NAIA's Champions of Character initiatives. Being selected as host of this championship is a true honor."

Golf course construction at Wilderness Ridge began in 1998 and was officially opened in 2001, consisting of an 18-hole championship course and 9-hole executive course. The championship course, which will house the NAIA National Championships, is measured at just over 7,100 yards with a par score of 71.

In addition to the NAIA event, Wilderness Ridge hosts numerous other prestigious events throughout the year including a United States Open Qualifier, the Nebraska Section Professional Golf Association (PGA) Championship and the Nebraska Mid-Amateur Championship.

Doane, established in 1872, has its primary campus located in Crete, Neb. - located approximately 30 minutes south and west of Lincoln. The institution prides itself as Nebraska's first liberal arts and sciences college with the mission of providing "a world-class liberal arts and sciences education grounded in the uncompromising pursuit of leadership through academic excellence, innovation, community and the creation of a special sense of place for each individual."

The Tigers athletic department sponsors 18 intercollegiate sports for both men and women, participating as a member of the Great Plains Athletic Conference.

Nine different programs have previously taken home the team title, including British Columbia's 2012 championship. The crown was the fourth overall for the Thunderbirds. The first NAIA Women's Golf National Championships, hosted in Dakota Dunes, S.D., occurred in 1995 with Lynn (Fla.) claiming its first of back-to-back national titles. Currently, 151 varsity programs sponsor women's golf in the NAIA. For a complete list of those institutions, click here.
