VICTORIA, Texas – (Results) Oklahoma City University's Elia Folch carded a final-round 69 to pick up the individual title and pace the Stars to a first-place finish in the Claud Jacobs Intercollegiate Monday at the Club at Colony Creek.
OCU, ranked, No. 3 in NAIA women's golf, finished the tournament with a score of 290-292—582 on the par-72, 5,856-yard course and finished 11 shots ahead of No. 17 Northwood (Texas) and 26 strokes in front of No. 21 Houston-Victoria. The Stars have now won back-to-back Claude Jacobs Intercollegiate team titles.
"Overall I am very proud of the team's performance," OCU coach Marty McCauley said. "We struggled a bit at the end, but it was certainly a wonderful way to start our spring season, and I'm very happy with the results."
Folch rolled in 10 birdies including five in the final round and finished with a score of 72-69—141. The senior from Barcelona, Spain, finished one shot ahead of Fariza Zain of Northwood and three shots ahead of teammate Caroline Goodin.
Goodin, a freshman from Oklahoma City, finished third with a score of 71-73—144. She made five birdies and one eagle to finish the tournament at even par.
Katie-Lee Wilson, of Owasso, Okla., tied for fifth with a score of 73-75—148, Kailey Campbell, of Oktaha, Okla., carded 74-75—149 and tied for eighth and Anna Mikish, of Choctaw, Okla., recorded 75-75—150 to tie for 11th place. The freshmen trio carded seven birdies apiece.
Raegan Barnes, a freshman from Choctaw, Okla., shot 82-83—165, and sophomore Abby Thompson, of Edmond, Okla., carded 84-83—167 while playing as individuals.
OCU will return to action in the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Classic on Feb. 24-25 at Corpus Christi Country Club in Corpus Christi, Texas.
