Player of the Week No. 5

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Ekaterina Kamendova of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) has been named NAIA Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Kamendova was selected based on her performances from April 9 – 15 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group player of the week selections. Kamendova has now won the award twice in her career. She also was named Player of the Week on April 13, 2011.

The senior native of Moscow, Russia, ranked as the 22nd best singles player in the NAIA by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, dispatched of a pair of highly-rated singles foes from NCAA Division II squads. She first defeated 20th-ranked Olga Kalodzitsa, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0, of NCAA Division II No. 3 Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.) in the Eagles’ 7-2 loss on April 12. She followed that up with a 6-2, 7-6 (6-1) victory over 14th-ranked Jeanette McDonald of NCAA Division II No. 15 St. Leo (Fla.) in a 5-2 Embry-Riddle triumph on April 14.

Kamendova also posted a perfect 2-0 record at No. 2 doubles. She and teammate Rocio Frej Vitalle, the No. 11-ranked doubles pair in the NAIA, topped the 10th-ranked duo of Marlen Hacke and Kalodzitsa of Armstrong Atlantic, 8-2, and then finished the week with an 8-2 win over St. Leo’s McDonald and Adrianna Daszkiewicz.

Kamendova is now 20-4 in singles action and 22-2 in doubles. As a team, Embry-Riddle is 18-3 overall and is ranked No. 3 in the NAIA.

The next women’s tennis Player of the Week will be announced on April 25.
