KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Greg Montgomery of College of Idaho has been named the NAIA National Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Montgomery was selected based on his performance from Sept. 17 - 23 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent runner of the week selections.

Montgomery, a senior from Boise, Idaho, posted his second-straight individual championship of the season - sixth career victory - with a first-place finish out of 163 runners at the Erik Anderson Cross Country Invitational in Spokane, Wash., on Sept. 22. The event was also considered part of the Red Lion Cascade Collegiate Conference/Frontier Conference Challenge, which matches teams from the NAIA's two northwest conferences in six different sports including cross country. Montgomery covered the 8K course in 24:17.61 to tie the Coyotes' program record. As a team, College of Idaho finished second of 15.

Montgomery's previous victory this season came at the Roger Curran Memorial Invitational on Sept. 8.

Montgomery and teammate Hillary Holt, who won the NAIA National Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week award, are the second College of Idaho teammates to sweep the weekly awards. The first were Austin Basterrechea and Travis Sharp, who accomplished the feat in the first NAIA men's outdoor track and field weekly award in 2011.
