Hastings is still riding the nation’s longest active win streak at 33-straight matches, which is an NAIA record. The Broncos tallied all 22 first-place votes and 622 total points. The defending champions got past Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Sept. 25 by a 3-2 score. The Broncos will take an 8-0 record into their match against Concordia (Neb.) on Wednesday.
Outside of the top 10, all of the remaining ranked teams shifted positions. The biggest improvement within the poll was Concordia (Calif.), who vaulted up four spots to No. 14. No. 22 Kansas Wesleyan experienced the largest drop, falling eight spots after losing two-straight matches to unranked opponents.
No. 23 Taylor (Ind.), No. 24 Reinhardt (Ga.) and No. 25 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) all found themselves in the Top 25 as newcomers. Reinhardt is sporting its first national ranking in school history (since its program inception in 1999) and boasts its best start at 8-0. Taylor is listed for the first time since polls date back to 2000. The Trojans are 9-1 for the team's best start since 1988. Auburn Montgomery hops back in after a one-week absence.
Bryan (Tenn.) (No. 19), La Sierra (Calif.) (No. 24) and Oklahoma Wesleyan (No. 25) all fell out of the poll this week. Bryan had its streak of 14-straight poll appearnaces end, which was tied for the fifth-longest active span.
The Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) lands five teams in the Top 25, which is the most among any of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups. Mobile, Belhaven, No. 7 Southern Poly (Ga.), No. 12 William Carey (Miss.) and Auburn Montgomery represent the SSAC. Both the Golden State Athletic Conference and Heart of America Athletic Conference each place four teams in the rankings. Overall, 13 of the 22 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conference/ independents/unaffiliated groups. The fifth regular-season Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll will be announced on Oct. 4.
Notes: (All information dates back to 2000) There have been 41 programs ranked in five polls this season… No. 1-ranked Hastings (Neb.) has grabbed all of the first-place votes in each of the last four polls… With five No. 1 rankings since 2000, all coming in the last five polls, Hastings is tied for sixth on the list for most top rankings… No. 3 Rio Grande (Ohio) has been ranked in the top 10 for the last 28-straight polls, dating back to the start of the 2009 season… Rio Grande holds the most No. 1 mentions since 2000 with 36… Overall, there have been 16 different teams to claim the No. 1 spot, after Rio Grande there is Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in second (31), followed by Bethel (Tenn.) (11), Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) (9), Hastings (5), Azusa Pacific (Calif.) (5) and Concordia (Calif.) (5)… Lindsey Wilson holds the distinction of being consecutively ranked the longest among active schools – 49-straight polls, dating back to the 2007 Preseason Top 25 Poll… Rio Grande is next in line with 43, followed by Azusa Pacific with 36 and Hastings with 34… Since 2000, two teams have rattled through the entire season ranked No. 1 – Bethel in 2009 and Rio Grande during the 2004 season.
