Top 25 - No. 6
October 11, 2011
Fifth-ranked Baker (Kan.) moved up one position for its first top-five spot since the 2009 season. The Wildcats replaced last week's No. 5 team, Azusa Pacific (Calif.), who fell seven positions to 12th. That downward slide was the worst within the poll as the Cougars recorded a loss and a tie last week.
No. 17 Kansas Wesleyan improved six positions for the biggest jump within the Top 25. After a 4-3 start to the year, the Coyotes have won four-straight matches.
Topping the newcomers list is No. 25 Tennessee Wesleyan, with its first national ranking since polls are available dating back to 1999. The Bulldogs are 10-2 and have posted a current seven-game winning streak. No. 21 Biola (Calif.) and No. 22 Embry-Riddle (Fla.) join the rankings after taking a one-week hiatus.
Ranked 14th last week, Northwood (Fla.) dropped out of the entire receiving votes list. The Seahawks lost twice in a four-day span. Graceland (Iowa) (No. 20) and The Master's (Calif.) (No. 24) were the other teams to fall out of the Top 25 this week.
The Southern States Athletic Conference landed five teams in the Top 25, the most of any of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups: Mobile, No. 7 William Carey (Miss.), No. 10 Belhaven (Miss.), No. 15 Southern Poly (Ga.) and No. 20 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.). The Golden State Athletic Conference placed four teams in the rankings. Overall, 14 of the 22 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are represented.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conference/independents/unaffiliated groups. The seventh regular-season Men's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 Poll will be announced on Oct. 18.
