Top 25 - No. 8
October 25, 2011
The Blue Raiders tallied 17 of a possible 22 first-place votes and recorded 588 total points. They are one of two undefeated teams remaining with a 12-0-0 record. No. 2 Baker (Kan.), who defeated Hastings 1-0 in overtime to stay perfect at 15-0-0, climbed up three spots with 567 points and posted the remaining four first-place nods. Rio Grande (Ohio) tied for the third spot with Hastings with 547 points. Falling one slot, No. 5 Mobile (Ala.) captured 516 points.
There were 20 teams that shifted positions throughout the poll. Three programs changed five-or-more spots. No. 12 (tie) Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) climbed up the ladder eight rankings, courtesy of a 1-0 victory over then-No. 10 Belhaven (Miss.) on Oct. 18 and a 2-2 draw against No. 7 William Carey (Miss.) on Oct. 22. Concordia (Calif.) had another big jump, up five positions to No. 8. Conversely, Belhaven fell the farthest to No. 18.
Due to a loss to unranked Union (Ky.) on Oct.18, Tennessee Wesleyan drops out of the Top 25. The Bulldogs were 24th last week. Replacing Tennessee Wesleyan was No. 25 Graceland (Iowa). The Yellowjackets were ranked on three previous occasions this year, with the last one coming on Oct. 4.
The Southern States Athletic Conference landed five teams in the Top 25, the most of any of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups: Mobile, William Carey, Auburn Montgomery, No. 15 Southern Poly (Ga.) and Belhaven. The Heart of America Athletic Conference is represented by a quartet of programs in the rankings. Overall, 13 of the 22 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are listed.
The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conference/independents/unaffiliated groups. The ninth regular-season Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll will be announced on Nov. 1.
