Top 25 - No. 9

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Lindsey Wilson (Ky.), who is in the No. 1 spot for the second-straight week, was one of just six teams to hold in the NAIA Men’s Soccer Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. The Blue Raiders earned two more first-place votes than last week to total 19 and 620 points overall.

Both the Lindsey Wilson men’s and women’s soccer programs hold the No. 1 position, which marks the second-straight week. Since 2000, this accomplishment is the 13th time that both soccer teams have been ranked in the top spot during the same Top 25 poll. Lindsey Wilson has done this a total of 12 times and Westmont (Calif.) has accomplished this once back on Oct. 3, 2000.

Lindsey Wilson will host eighth-seeded Pikeville (Ky.) in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Tournament on Saturday. The top-seeded Blue Raiders have now won the MSC regular season title 10 times in the 12-year existence of the league.

Behind Lindsey Wilson in the poll is No. 2 Baker (Kan.), No. 3 Hastings (Neb.), No. 4 Rio Grande (Ohio) and No. 5 Mobile (Ala.). Baker recorded the remaining three first-place votes as it joins Lindsey Wilson as the only undefeated teams. Rio Grande was the lone squad in this group to shift ranking as it fell one spot.

Southern Poly (Ga.) enjoys the best improvement within the Top 25, sliding up three positions to No. 12. The Hornets are riding a six-match winning streak and have outscored their opponents 18-1 in that span. Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) suffered the worst drop by going down seven spots to 19th. The Warhawks have gone 0-1-2 in their last three contests.

No. 21 Fresno Pacific (Calif.) becomes the 44th different team to be ranked this season. The Sunbirds are ranked for the first time since Oct. 14, 2008, when they were 12th. They have gone 8-2-0 in their last 10 matches. Included in that stretch are wins against then-No. 8 Concordia (Calif.) on Oct. 29 and then-No. 5 Azusa Pacific (Calif.) on Oct. 5. Fresno Pacific replaced Golden State Athletic Conference member Vanguard (Calif.) in the poll.

The Southern States Athletic Conference leads all conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups with five teams in the Top 25: Mobile, No. 9 William Carey (Miss.), Southern Poly, No. 17 Belhaven (Miss.) and Auburn Montgomery. For the second-straight week, the Heart of America Athletic Conference landed four programs in the rankings. Overall, 13 of the 22 conferences/independents/unaffiliated groups are listed.

The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conference/independents/unaffiliated groups. The 10th regular-season Top 25 Poll will be announced on Nov. 8.

(11), Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) (9), Hastings (Neb.) (8), Azusa Pacific (Calif.) (5) and Concordia (Calif.) (5)… No. 3 Hastings and No. 19 Taylor (Ind.) hold the most wins in the NAIA with 17… There have been 44 programs ranked in 10 polls this season and 14 of those have held a spot each week… Rio Grande has been ranked in the top 10 for the last 33-straight polls, dating back to the start of the 2009 season… Overall, there have been 16 different teams to claim the No. 1 spot… Lindsey Wilson holds the distinction of being consecutively ranked the longest among active schools – 54-straight polls, dating back to the 2007 Preseason Top 25 Poll… Rio Grande is next in line with 48, followed by Azusa Pacific with 41 and Hastings with 39… Since 2000, two teams have rattled through the entire season ranked No. 1 – Bethel in 2009 and Rio Grande during the 2004 season.
