Athlete of the Week - No. 3
By Chad Waller, NAIA Director of Communications & Sports Information
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Quentin Benning of Friends (Kan.) has been honored as the NAIA National Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of The Week and Jordan Reeher of Concordia (Ore.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of The Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Benning and Reeher were selected based on their performances from March 26 - April 1.
Benning, a senior from San Antonio, Texas, earned medalist honors in three events and second-place status in the discus throw (143' 7"). At the Friends University Enduro Classic from March 30 - 31, his toss of 52' 1 ¾" took first among 15 competitors and also placed him eighth on the NAIA season chart. In the javelin, Benning (pictured top right) hit a mark of 180' 6" for top honors and also was first in the hammer (128' 11").
Reeher, a freshman from Prineville, Ore., was part of a record-breaking effort at the NCAA Division III Willamette (Ore.) Invite on March 31. He was a member of the 1,600-meter relay team that smashed a 32-year old Charles Bowles Track stadium record (3:17.09), while winning the event. That effort also set a school record by more than two full seconds. He also automatically qualified in the 400-meter hurdles with a first-place time of 53.35. That mark is good for second on the NAIA season list and third in Concordia's record book.
