KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Cumberlands’ (Ky.) Aaron Watkins has been named the NAIA National Men’s Golfer of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Watkins was selected based on his performances from April 2 – 8 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group golfer of the week selections. The honor is the second such award in the career of Watkins, who also received the 2011 season’s first Golfer of the Week award.

Watkins’ two-round nine-under-par (68-65–133) at the Mid-South Conference (MSC) Spring Invite April 2 – 3 topped a field of 46 golfers from eight conference schools. The senior from Harlan, Ky., tied the school record for the lowest 18-hole round by carding a 65 on day two. Watkins’ medalist performance lifted Cumberlands to a first-place team finish (279-269–548), 26 strokes better than second-place Lindsey Wilson (Ky.). The Patriots’ 18-hole score of 269 on day two and overall 36-hole total of 548 both set school records.

Watkins has been named the MSC Golfer of the Week twice this season and six times in his career.

The next Men’s Golfer of the Week will be announced on April 18.
