KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Alainey Muro of Texas at Brownsville has been named the NAIA National Women's Golfer of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Muro was selected based on her performances from April 23 - 29 and was chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated group golfer of the week selections. The honor is the first for Muro.
Muro, a freshman from McAllen, Texas, carded a school record 145 in the two-round NAIA Unaffiliated Group Tournament April 23 - 24 to capture the event's individual championship and a berth in the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships in Greenville, Tenn., May 15 - 19. Her performance led the Scorpions to a second place finish amongst Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference, Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference and Red River Athletic Conference foes. Muro set the tone for the field early with a program record-tying round of 71 before wrapping up the competition with a 74 in day two.
On the year, Muro owns five top-five finishes and an average round score of 80.2.
