KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Gaetan Massiah of Mobile (Ala.) has been named the NAIA National Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week and Patrick Kinsella of Ashford (Iowa) has been tabbed National Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the national office announced Tuesday. Massiah and Kinsella were selected based on their performances from Oct. 15 - 21 and were chosen out of a pool of conference/independent/unaffiliated groupings.
Massiah, a 5-foot-9 freshman midfielder from Bordeaux, France, recorded his second hat trick of the season to lead No. 18 Mobile to an upset victory over then-No. 6 Belhaven (Miss.). Massiah scored his first goal at the 54:48 mark of the second half to tie the game at one. Seven minutes later, Massiah gave the Rams its first lead of the game with his second goal of the game. Massiah was not done as he added his third and final goal nine minutes later.
Massiah is second on the team and 46th in the nation with 11 goals.
Kinsella, a 6-foot-3 junior goalkeeper from Surrey, England, added two more victories to his record in goal last week. In 180 minutes of action, Kinsella tallied 11 saves in two matches. In a 1-0 shutout victory at then-No. 19 Hastings (Neb.) on Oct. 16, Kinsella stopped seven shots. On Oct. 20, he tallied four saves against Jamestown (N.D.) in a 2-1 victory.
On the year, Kinsella stands at 10-2-2 and ranks third in the NAIA in goals against average (0.690).
