NAIA Menís Swimmer & Diver of the Month Ė No. 1
By Chad Waller, NAIA Director of Communications & Sports Information
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Daniel Ramirez of Oklahoma Baptist has been named the NAIA National Men's Swimmer & Diver of the Month, the national office announced Friday. Ramirez was selected based on his performances in the month of October through December. He was chosen out of a pool of candidates nominated by NAIA men’s swimming & diving programs.
Ramirez, a native from Hermosillo, Mexico, set NAIA season highs in seven different events since the start of the 2013 campaign. The junior was a highlight at the NCAA Division I University of Texas Invitational on Dec. 5 where he finished sixth overall among 32 competitors in the 100-yard backstroke (47.43). That mark would have broken the National Championship record in the event by .17 of a second. In all seven of his events overall, he placed within the top 10, which included a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly (1:51.15) at the NCAA Division III Hendrix (Ark.) Classic on Oct. 25.
The second edition of the Men's Swimmer & Diver of the Month will be announced on Jan. 24, 2014. For more information on NAIA Swimming & Diving, click here.
