KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Shani Adams of Wayland Baptist (Texas) has been named 2014 NAIA National Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week and Brittany Green of Cornerstone (Mich.) has been tabbed as the NAIA National Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Adams and Green were selected based on their performances from Jan. 20 –26.
Adams, a freshman from Bridgetown, Barbados, moved herself to No. 1 on the best times list in the 600-meters. At the NCAA Division I New Mexico Cherry and Silver Invitational from Jan. 24 -25, Adams finished third overall in the 600-meters and her time of 1:32.21 is the best in the NAIA this year. In that event, she finished behind two NCAA Division I runners. Also, Adams was part of the 4x400 relay team to take fifth overall with a clocking of 3:44.83, which is good for the top time in the NAIA.
Green, a junior from Monclova, Ohio, made a splash in five events at the NCAA Division II Findlay (Ohio) Classic from Jan. 24-25. In the pentathlon, Green achieved NAIA qualifying marks in three events: high jump (5-5), long jump (17-8 3/4) and shot put (42-1 1/2). She also shattered the Cornerstone school record in the pentathlon with 3,671 points, which was good for third at the Findlay Classic and No. 1 in the NAIA thus far this season. Green also finished with a personal-record time of 9.21 in the 60-meter hurdles, which earned her another national qualifying mark.
The third installment of the Women's Indoor Track & Field weekly award will be announced on Feb. 5. For the complete Athlete of the Week calendar, click here.
