2014 NAIA Women's Tennis Player of the Week - No. 1

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Valeria Podda of Georgia Gwinnett has been named the NAIA Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the national office announced Wednesday. Shake was selected based on her performances from March 10-16 and was chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated grouping award winners.

Podda, a freshman from Leiderdorp, Netherlands, went 3-1 at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles on the week. She won her singles and doubles matches in Georgia Gwinnett’s first win over an NCAA Division I opponent, Northern Illinois, on March 11. She also defeated Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) NAIA No. 1 singles player Theresa Schmaus of SCAD Savannah (Ga.), on March 15. Her only losses on the week came against NCAA Division II then-No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic (Ga.) in both singles and doubles.
