GULF SHORES, Ala. - Indiana University Southeast fell 10-0 to Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) in five innings on the final day of pool play, but due to beating Lubbock Christian (Texas), the only other 2-1 team in the pool, the Grenadiers advance to the double-elimination bracket. Lubbock Christian was also victorious in pool play Saturday. The Grenadiers will face the Pool D winner Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. CDT.
The Grenadiers had three pitchers give up 10 runs on eight hits in five innings, but the way all of the dominoes fell, it did not matter. Jordan Hood got the win for Lindsey Wilson with 4 innings of two-hit shutout ball.
Amy Buwalda finished with a double and three RBI and Caren Alexander added two RBI and two runs scored for the Blue Raiders. Lindsey Wilson scored all ten runs in the first three innings of play.
In other Pool E action Saturday, Lubbock Christian defeated Union (Tenn.) 3-2. Sarah Mendez struck out 10 Lady Bulldog hitters in a complete-game victory. She allowed two runs on five hits.
Offensively, the Lady Chaps swiped nine bags, led by three steals from McKenzie Clemmons. Mendez and Kim Frazier went 2-for-3 each from the three and four slots in the lineup. Shelby Lamb drove in a pair for Union and Jenyce Spence added two hits. Amanda Longorio's RBI-single in the fourth proved to be the game-winner.
